Our team is full of talented people working to make Autex Acoustics a great place to be. Someone who falls into this category is Sophie Stephens, our marketing communications specialist. Having joined our team just over a year ago she has been working hard to ensure that our brand is consistently and professionally represented on all platforms. We sat down to learn about what makes her tick. Here is what she had to say:

What work experience do you have?

I’m originally from the UK and came down to New Zealand for an internship during University. Having had this experience I knew I wanted to come back and was lucky enough to get my current role amid the Covid lockdowns. Most of my background is based in social media working for high end brands. This is the space I love to be in as I want to be representing the best in the industry.

Why do you like working in Marketing?

I really like the challenges and variety of work I get to be involved with. One of the things I was adamant about was working in a proper marketing team. Everyone is a specialist in what they do and we get to function as a real unit. We get creative freedom which means we can push the boundaries and grow as people.

What is your favourite part of your job?

Similar to my last answer this would be my team. I get to collaborate with a range of people both internal and externally. Connecting with people is something I love and I get to do that everyday.

What motivates you?

There are a few things that motivate me. I feel that It is really important to be challenged every day and that your overall well being needs to be prioritised. Morning walks really help me to meditate and look after myself. I’d also say that making my family proud is a big motivator. Whenever I have anything to share, they are always the first people I go to.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learnt in your career so far?

That would be the importance of being honest. I believe that it is important to listen to myself and trust my gut. If you do feel like you need to make a decision or a change in your work that is for a reason. Voicing that opinion should be heard and we should feel comfortable to do so.

What is your favourite memory of working at Autex Acoustics so far?

The Best awards this year was a really enjoyable night. Spending time with my colleagues and industry peers outside of work is great as you really get to see how a person is when they’re relaxed. This definitely ties back into how I love connecting with people.

What do you do outside of work to stay busy?

I am an active relaxer. That means I need to be out and doing something. Whether that be walking, gymming, or paddle boarding permitting the weather, I love doing it all. Outside of that I am a big foody. Finding new places online and trying them out is great especially when I get to take some nice photos of the food!
